About BETTER

BETTER is a software toolkit that delivers actionable insights to improve energy, emissions, and financial performance in buildings and portfolios without requiring site visits and complex modeling. Through advances in remote building energy analytics, BETTER replaces a preliminary on-site audit, streamlines an investment-grade audit, uncovers no-cost and low-cost efficiency measures to immediately cut energy costs across a portfolio, and targets the buildings that can most easily achieve net zero energy. About BETTER | Mexico

BETTER | Mexico is a Spanish translation of the BETTER toolkit and adds a building energy database specific to Mexico and customized Mexico building electricity and fossil energy consumption statistics to deliver accurate and precise benchmarking and retrofit analysis of buildings in Mexico. Support for development and validation of BETTER | Mexico comes from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mexico, the USAID Energy Efficiency for Development (EE4D) program, and the Mexico City Secretariat of the Environment ( SEDEMA).

Who is using BETTER | Mexico

BETTER | Mexico is used by national and local government agencies, such as SEDEMA and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (SEMA), Quintana Roo; universities, such as National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); energy service companies, including Acciona; multinational corporations, such as Jones Lang LaSalle and 3M Mexico; investors and lenders, like Fibra Uno and Citibanamex; and non-profit organizations, such as World Resources Institute (WRI) Mexico.

How BETTER | Mexico is Bringing Value

BETTER | Mexico serves as the primary database and retrofit analysis tool for several national and local building retrofit programs, such as the Efficient Buildings Challenge in Mexico City, a program to help public and private buildings cut annual energy use that is led by SEDEMA, UNAM, and WRI Mexico, with support from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The USAID Partnership for Net Zero Cities is also applying BETTER for Mexico to support adoption of energy efficiency measures for net zero buildings by 2050. Finally, in a novel application, Fibra Uno, Mexico and Latin America’s first and largest real estate investment trust (REIT) is piloting BETTER to accelerate energy efficiency and net zero energy retrofits for nearly 100 of its properties across Mexico. A 10 percent reduction in Fibra Uno’s energy consumption will avoid emission of 695,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and demonstrate an approach for decarbonizing real estate investment portfolios at speed, scale, and low-cost for 2,000 REIT properties in Mexico. Building Types Supported by BETTER | Mexico

BETTER | Mexico can be used to analyze the performance of any commercial building type in Mexico for which a user can enter all required data for at least 30 buildings. At this time, BETTER | Mexico can also be used to analyze the performance of a single building, or a portfolio of less than 30 buildings, for Mexican public or private offices.
